Thiago Silva vs. Lyoto Machida
Light heavyweight sensation Lyoto ‘The Dragon’ Machida will look to keep the momentum going from his May victory over Tito Ortiz when he returns to the Octagon to face fellow unbeaten (and fellow Brazilian) Thiago Silva in what should be an explosive clash on October 18th’s UFC 89 card at The National Indoor Arena in Birmingham, England.
Yes, finally….I think Silva is madly overrated…yet, he’s aggressive enough to make Machida fight him…so this should be an exciting fight. Both fighter’s are undefeated…so as they say….somebody’s 0 must go! The UFC 89 card is shaping up very nicely…especially for a card that’s taking place overseas. Also, it must be noted that there are rumor’s that the UFC 89 card will air on Spike TV for FREE…albeit on a tape delayed basis. I will not complain!

no way.. thiago is overrated..are you kidding.his GNP is vicious.i’m about ready for machida to get KTFO!!..i’m sick of hearing about him.he has only finnished one fight in the UFC.Thiago finnishes all his fights .everyone keeps saying machida deserves a title shot.bull shit.HE says”the UFC wants Liddell to be champ cuz he’s marketable.this is partly true.BUT Chuck brings blood and KO’s..Nobody wants to see someone dancing around the cage.Let hime fight Chuck or Wandy and get his ass handed to him.IF he can finnish a fight via TKO,KO..Then MAYBE he deserves a title shot.until then…..I see Thiago taking this one 2nd round TKO!!!!!

Anybody’s GnP can look vicious against mediocre opponents. I’m just saying he hasn’t beaten anybody THAT good yet…to consider him a contender at this point. Now, if he beats Machida…then yea…he’ll deserve some hype. Thanks for the comments btw and stick around.

true…but he pushes.machidas stick and move is just boring.i know he has beaten great competition in the past, but he barely pulled off a win against a washed up tito..thiago reminds me of tito in his hay day.even though his opponents are mediocre, they are all 1st round finnishes with the exception of tomasz dwrall who was undefeated. And i’m not denying machida’s ability..but pulling out decisions doesn’t get you anywhere in the ufc.Thiago will push the pace..and machida will have to bang.

Machida DOMINATED Tito…the triangle/armbar in the last round wasn’t close to be locked in…I’ve watched it in slo mo like 10 times! I do agree that Silva is aggressive and he will need to be against Machida. I like Silva a lot…I just think his hype is undeserved at this point.

i guess we won’t know for sure til Oct. 18th. I know machida has been training with anderson silva.maybe he’ll take some pointers and pull off a finish.if not,he’s gonna get caught.this is a perfect opportunity for both fighters to show what they’re really made of.I don’t think machida will get any respect if he pulls out another decision.

I agree…Machida needs to finish Silva…he finished Soko…so it’s possible.

Thiago’s aggressive style is a perfect matchup for Lyoto’s counterstiking style, and Machida WILL take Silva’s 0! Machida is MUCH too intelligent and skilled to get caught in a boring predicatable GnP oppoenent. If you watch a lot of Thiago’s previous fights, his opponents came close to finishing him early in the rounds but always ended up making an aggressive mistake which resulted in Silva’s favor. In ALL of Machida’s fights, The Dragon always controlled the fight and often made his opponents look like puzzled amateurs; and Thiago won’t be the acception. It’ll be exciting to watch Machida skillfully pick apart, and probably frustrate, Silva for three rounds. Machida simply has too many tools in his bag of tricks for Thiago to handle.
